This screener of supermarket self-checkout illustrates
at least one of the reasons I never use those devices:
endless interactions with machines turn people into automata.
The stiff-limbed figure in the tutorial is a role model for robotic
21st century consumers--well-proportioned but soulless.
The bigger reason I don't use them is two-fold: I prefer a
little human interaction when I can get it and I don't like
seeing people replaced by machines in social venues.
What's next, a robot bartender?
