January 5, 2006

Part of the camaraderie of working on Seattle RE Store
salvage crew was after-work beers and bowling at the
nearby Sunset Bowl in Ballard where our waitress Jolie
could be counted on to bring drinks, smiles, and a little
bit of discipline as Joel so obviously needed here. The
owner sold out to a developer and 50 employees lost
their jobs and Ballard lost one of its last remaining blue
collar hangouts. Then the real estate bubble burst and
the building still sits empty, the property undeveloped.
I wish the employees could have somehow organized
and bought out the owner--easier said than done.
